The Initiative - Time to grow

The Initiative - Time to grow

No matter where you are on your journey, I want to say thank you for sticking with me this long and if you don’t just want the change but are willing to change and apply what needs to be done even when the going can be tough you will accomplish.

So how are you today?

When we were discussing how you perceive yourself and how others perceive you was there anything that came up which surprised you?

Have you been busy journaling these things?

I've said it before and I'll say it again writing is one of the greatest tools we have for self awareness.

You don’t need to be William Shakespeare as this is our own personal journey.

Day 25 and as we move closer to day 30, I want to start preparing to release you into the wild!

I don’t just want you to maintain your sobriety, I want to see you grow and live the authentic life you were born to have!

Over the course of the last 25 days, I hope that you have been learning different lessons about yourself through becoming more self-aware.

You will have been adapting, applying and finding your voice.

The aim of the game now is to begin improving on that You will have learned a number of new lessons as I say and these could include:

• To not stress about what we have no control over

• To live in the present

• To take time for you

• You do have choice

• You are not the voice in your head

• You can form new habits

• You can be more than your past

The list goes on and on and the more we become self-aware through making conscious choices the more we learn. So even though you may not realise it...You do have the ability to learn new things.

I want you to start focusing now on what you want to learn in the future.

That will help your recovery and also help you to grow as a person.

This could be:

• To learn new calming techniques though meditation or yoga

• Improve fitness or health generally

• The skills to find a new job

• Learn an instrument

• Learn better motivational techniques

• Learn a certain craft

• Learn how to rom better relationships

• Study a new course

Again, the list is endless.

Grab your trusty pen and your journal and start to make a note of what you want to do that will help you grow.

Next, I want you to make a note of the way in which you learn best.

We all learn differently. Some through reading and studying, others through more practical exercises.

Some prefer books others prefer video or audio content.

I want you to focus on areas that will engage you In your journal make a note of what you would like to learn and how you will go about this that will ensure you will get the most out of it.

Next make a note of your motivation.

• What is your motivation for learning this new life skill or interest?

• What can you apply to keep you motivated?

You can do this as many times as you like for as many new life skills that you wish to learn and develop.

Remember this is your journey.

Take a moment to share with others in the group what you are thinking about learning, what you want to do and how you will do it.

Personally, I threw myself into writing, I left school with a GCSE in art and during my recovery I decided I was going to write a book.

I never thought that possible but by applying myself every day I did and you can also!

Below is a video I made on bringing in new stimuli.
